Simple Rolled Fondant Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

Makes 2 pounds

  • 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/2 cup liquid glucose
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin
  • 2 tablespoons solid vegetable shortening
  • 8 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Put the gelatin in the water and let stand until thick. Place the gelatin mixture into the top of a double boiler and gently heat until dissolved. Add the glucose and glycerin, and mix well. Stir in the shortening and remove from the heat just before It melts completely. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.

2. Place 4 cups of confectioners’ sugar in a bowl and make a well. Pour the gelatin mixture into the well and stir, mixing in the sugar until the stickiness disappears. Knead in the remaining sugar until the fondant does not stick to your hands.

3. Tightly wrap in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container. Place In a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
