Chipmunks Facts for Kids

Chipmunks are rodents with bony legs, bushy tails, and white, black, and brown stripes on their backs. Chipmunks can be found almost anywhere there are trees. Chipmunks build their homes by creating burrows or nesting in logs or bushes. In fact, they are not social animals, they like to keep to themselves and only in spring, during the mating season, they interact with each other.

Chipmunks are big eaters and spend most of their day searching for food. Chipmunks hibernate, but they do not hoard fat like bears do. They store extra food in their cheek pouches and eat from their food stash like squirrels in winter.
