Rabbit Facts for Kids

Rabbits are small mammals with long ears and fluffy, short tails and whiskers. Rabbits are herbivores; they eat only plants, fruits, and vegetables and do not eat meat at all. Rabbits are found all over the world. Wild rabbits can be found in forests, woodlands, grasslands, deserts, tundra, and wetlands. They create their dwellings by tunneling into the ground.

Rabbits are very social and live in large groups called colonies. The best time of day for rabbits is dusk and dawn, as the low light allows them to hide from predators. Predators such as owls, hawks, eagles, falcons, wild dogs, bobcats and ground squirrels are a constant threat to them. The rabbit’s long legs and ability to run at high speed help them elude animals that want to eat them.
