Hedgehog Facts for Kids

Hedgehogs are small mammals with short legs and a body covered with short needles. Interestingly, despite appearances, porcupines and hedgehogs are not close relatives! Did you know that all hedgehogs are predators? They eat fruit, mushrooms, millipedes, insects, snails, worms, mice, frogs, eggs, birds, frogs, reptiles, roots and snakes. And they can eat a third of their body weight in just one night!

Also, hedgehogs are big sleepers and can sleep up to 18 hours a night. Hedgehogs hunt at night. Fact: Hedgehogs have poor eyesight, so they rely solely on their hearing and sense of smell to find food.
